BUFFALO, N.Y. - With time running out on the 2013 NHL Trade Deadline, the Buffalo Sabres dealt their captain to the Minnesota Wild.

The Sabres have traded forward Jason Pominville to the Wild for goaltender Matt Hackett and forward Johan Larsson. Specifics of the deal may also include draft picks.

Buffalo drafted Pominville in the second round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, before earning a roster spot in 2005. The 30-year old wing was an NHL All-Star in 2012 and became the Sabres full-time captain in 2011.

The Sabres receive two prospects from the Wild. Hackett is a 23-year old goalie with 13 career NHL appearances, including one appearance in 2013 (allowing five goals in a loss to Dallas). Hackett was drafted by Minnesota in the third round of the 2009 NHL Draft.

In a press conference, Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier said that Goalie Matthew Hackett "will compete at some point for a job here."

Larsson is a 20-year old left winger with one career NHL appearance. The Wild drafted the Sweden native in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft.

So far, Buffalo has also traded defenseman T.J. Brennan, Jordan Leopold, and Robyn Regehr. In return, the Sabres have picked up a second round draft pick in 2013, two fifth round draft picks in 2013, a second round draft pick in 2014 and a second round draft pick in 2015.

Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier says that no decision has been made on a replacement captain.
