BATAVIA, N.Y. -- The "yogurt boom" is going strong in Batavia these days with a couple of dairy companies there continuing to expand.
Tuesday the folks at Alpina were installing two new 20,000 gallon silos tripling the amount of milk that the facility is able to store. In the long run, that means faster and cheaper production to help Alpina compete better.
"I was hoping to be able to expand this quickly, that was always our desire. The volume that we have is allowing us to expand quicker than what was anticipated. We hoped for it and planned for it as the need arose. Fortunately, the need arose so we were able to execute," said Roger Parkhurst with Alpina USA.
Alpina had the silos made by Feldmeier Equipment in Little Falls which it says is part of the commitment to support Western New York businesses with the Batavia facility.
