BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Outer Harbor Concert Series kicks off this week with Guns N' Roses taking the stage Wednesday, June 5.
It's the band's first appearance in Western New York in over 20 years and they'll be coming back to perform at one of the city's newest concert venues.
Funtime After Dark Promotions, the company that presents the concerts, started the series last summer with three acts taking the stage on Buffalo's Outer Harbor. The promoters have been working all year to improve the site for this summer's shows.
Promoters promise that any problems from last year have been resolved and have been working all year to improve the site. The traffic problems on Route 5 and the Skyway, like the ones experienced at Edgefest last year, have been taken care of.
According to Artie Kwitchoff, a partner at Funtime After Dark, a traffic plan is in place with the NFTA to minimize any backup. Significant space has also been cleared for additional parking. The site has also been cleaned up to get it concert ready.
"We've already worked with the NFTA police to change traffic patterns, we've cleared acres of land for parking that had previously been neglected areas. We've cleaned them up, cut the grass, and cleaned up all the debris, so people are going to have easy access for parking and to the front gates," Kwitchoff said.
The group decided to build a permanent stage on site to better equip bands with large scale production. Kwitchoff says that with all the recent tragedies, like Sugarland's stage collapsing last summer at the Indiana State Fair, it was important to have a structure that could support the weight of extensive production equipment like lighting and speakers.
The number of bands playing this year has doubled, with six artists now set to rock Buffalo's waterfront this summer. The complete line up:
Guns N' Roses- June 5
Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson - June 14
The Black Keys - July 8
The Tragically Hip - July 19
Mac Miller - July 21
Flogging Molly -August 2
Tickets are available on ticketmaster.com or all Ticketmaster locations as well as at the Town Ballroom box office on Main Street and the After Dark box office on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo.
