HAMBURG, N.Y. -- Four drivers and a few horses are recovering after an accident on the track at Buffalo Raceway Friday night.

The Raceway's General Manager James Mango tells us a horse broke stride during a race, sending the drivers and horses to the ground.

The Raceway has ambulances on standby at the track, but called 911 since several people were hurt.

Mango says two drivers felt well enough to continue racing, but two went to ECMC.

On Saturday, Tim Bojarski, President of the Upstate New York Harness Writers Association, said that Jack Flanigen, one of the drivers, was treated and released from ECMC with no injuries other than overall soreness.

The other driver, Ray Fisher, spent the night at the hospital after being treated for two broken vertebrae and a fractured pelvis. In a statement released Saturday, Bojarski said that Fisher will not need surgery but will be out of commission for about five weeks.

"As bad as it looked, it turned out better than what most of us expected," said Bojarski.
