Buffalo, NY -- Plenty of people are getting lost in two new corn mazes in Cambria, Niagara county. There are 12 acres worth of twists and turns and plenty of dead ends. "It's one of the largest corn maze farms in the area," Leanna Ohol, who owns the Cambria Corn Maze, said.
The larger corn maze is almost three miles long and takes about an hour to get through. The longest time someone took so far is about two hours.
The smaller maze is about half a mile long and takes about 15 to 20 minutes to finish. Together the mazes make Fall themed shapes which is shown in an aerial picture before entering the mazes.
The mazes are more difficult with no visible breaks in the corn stalks, leaving maze goers alone on each stretch. "My husband actually planted the corn two different directions so it's very thick," Ohol explained.
There is also the very small hay maze for the younger kids. But if you're going for the big challenge there are hints to guide you in the large maze and there are "corn cops". "Some of our employees... we wear orange t-shirts... can help you if you get really stuck, will give you a little hint or help you get out," Ohol said. "There's an emergency exit."
It's recommended visitors wear comfortable farm type clothes, and if coming toward dusk, you can bring a flashlight. As far as tips for getting through the large maze on your own, Ohol says "just keep trying to remember where you last were because there are a lot of dead ends, take a new turn."
The maze farm also has other fall activities including pumpkin patches and a corn cannon. The farm is open through Halloween weekend, Wednesday through Friday from 3pm to 8pm, also on Saturday and Sunday noon to 8pm.
