BUFFALO, N.Y. - The security repercussions from the Boston Marathon bombing will be felt here in Western New York as we approach the busy festival season.

On Sunday, 2 On Your Side spoke with Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard about what police can realistically do to safeguard a large scale outdoor event like a Bills game or festivals like Taste of Buffalo.

He mentioned the "see something, say something" approach, requesting helpful tips from the public to alert police to suspicious individuals and situations.

Howard said he feels some things may seem like common sense.

"Certainly a backpack sitting somewhere by itself," Howard said. "Is it just someone in the stands that's watching it? If there is something in it that you find to be valuable, you wouldn't leave it like that."

Howard would not get specific, but did say expect to see some tighter security for some events.
