DEPEW, N.Y.-Depew outscored Amherst 8-5 Tuesday afternoon in a baseball game at Depew.
Amherst jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Depew scored three in their half of the inning to lead 3-1 after one. Amherst tied it with two in the third inning. The Wildcats put the game away with four runs in the fourth inning.
Justin Crawley got the win for Depew. He gave up all five runs in six innings of work. He struck out seven and walked two. At the plate Crawley was 2 for 4 with a run batted in and he scored two runs. Sean Driscoll pitched the seventh inning to earn the save. Driscoll was two for four with a run scored and he drove in two runs.
Depew is 6-6 overall and 5-6 in the division. Head coach Robert Parry told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar "we finally put together all three aspects of our game. Offense, defense and pitching. We're on a roll and hopefully we can carry that into the playoffs."
For Amherst Jonah Heim was two for three with a run scored. Matt Connolly was two for four with a double, a run batted in and a run scored. Connolly started and took the loss for Amherst.
Amherst coach Brian Davis told Stu "it was a disappointing, a disappointing performance. We got up and excited at the end of the game. We've been preaching to the guys that you have to come out ready. We gave them too many extra outs and that was the difference in the ball game. We showed a lack of competitiveness and we're not a good enough team to just flip on that switch."
Amherst is 9-6 overall and 7-5 in the division.
