COLUMBUS, O.H. (From Bisons.com)- The Bisons ninth inning rally came up short as the Herd fell to Columbus 3-2 on the road Wednesday night.
Second baseman Mike McCoy was 90 feet away from home plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Buffalo had its home run leader Mauro Gomez up at the plate, but did not get the hit the team needed to tie the game.
McCoy got the Herd within two runs after a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning as the Herd trailed 3-1. The second baseman went 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Herd.
Catcher Sean Ochinko got his second RBI in as many nights with a single to left field in the sixth inning, scoring Moises Sierra from second. Sierra reached base with a single of his own to lead off the sixth. Ochinko and Sierra both finished 1-for-4 at the plate.
Starting pitcher Chien-Ming Wang threw an impressive seven innings for the Bisons. The Taiwan native finished the night allowing six hits and three earned runs, while striking out four and walking just one hitter.
The 33-year-old has now earned four quality starts his first five outings for Buffalo.
Columbus came out swinging, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, but then Wang settled down and allowed no runs over the next six innings
Tim Fedroff led off the inning with a walk. Then, Wang allowed a single to Ryan Rohlinger and two batters later to Chun-Hsiu Chen to score Fedroff and put the Clippers ahead 1-0.
Juan Diaz followed up with a ground-ball single to center field, scoring Rohlinger. Herd center fielder Anthony Gose threw out Chen at home plate to keep Columbus up by just two runs.
But, Matt Carson doubled to right field in the next at-bat to give Columbus an early 3-0 lead.
Shortstop Ryan Goins four-game hitting streak was snapped after he went 0-for-4 tonight. Before that, he had 15 hits in his last 39 at-bats.
