Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - The Texas Rangers placed All-Star pitcher Yu
Darvish on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a strained trapezius in his
It's Darvish's first stint on the disabled list in his big league career, and
it will force him from participating in the All-Star Game. Tampa Bay's Matt
Moore was selected as his replacement.
Darvish was slated to start Thursday's finale of a four-game road series
against the Baltimore Orioles, but after feeling discomfort in the muscle
during a throwing session on Monday, the Rangers and Darvish decided to skip
the scheduled start rather than push through it.
The 26-year-old Japanese right-hander has an 8-4 record with a 3.02 earned
run average in 18 starts for the Rangers this season. He leads the majors with
The Rangers have optioned pitcher Josh Lindblom and recalled pitchers Joseph
Ortiz and Wilmer Font to fill the 40-man roster. It will be Ortiz's third
stint with Texas this season. In 22 relief appearances, he has gone 2-1 with a
Font, who made his big league debut last season with the Rangers, will see his
first major league action of the year. He has combined to go 2-2 with 11 saves
and a 1.27 ERA in 30 relief appearances for Double-A Frisco and Triple-A Round
Lindblom will be sent to Round Rock. He is 1-3 with a 5.46 ERA in eight games
(five starts) with the Rangers this year.
