Maybe it's just good timing, but House Rules Chairman Pete Sessions is raising money for his re-election bid next week at Beyonce's concert in Washington.
Beyonce is getting quite the buzz for her hush-hush release Friday of her fifth studio album on iTunes.
The invitation for the Dec. 18 fundraising event for Sessions, a Texas Republican who faces a Tea Party challenge on his right next year, says tickets are $1,000 for individuals and $2,500 for PACs. Sunlight Foundation's Political Party Time had a copy of the Sessions invitation, which was also tweeted by Dave Levinthal of the Center for Public Integrity.
Members of Congress frequently host fundraisers in the Verizon Center's luxury suites. Lady Gaga's concerts at the venue have been popular among Democrats. Beyonce's Mrs. Carter tour stopped in Washington in July, and Democratic Sens. Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, Tim Kaine and GOP Rep. John Shimkus of Illinois all hosted campaign fundraising events at the time.
It should be noted that Beyonce and her husband, Jay-Z, are supporters of President Obama and helped raise money for his 2012 campaign. She hails from Houston and Sessions represents a district in the Dallas area.
