Melissa Holmes co-anchors Daybreak each weekday morning from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m. Melissa joined WGRZ in January 2012 and couldn't be more proud to be part of the Channel 2 News team and stand up for Western New Yorkers. After all, she is one herself.
She grew up in Amherst and is a graduate of Sweet Home High School. Melissa's parents, Warren and Phyllis, still live in the home in which they raised her and her brother, Nicholas.
Melissa only moved away briefly down the Thruway to attend Syracuse University where she majored in Broadcast Journalism at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. She studied abroad in London and traveled Europe while working in the "War Room" at Sky News. Melissa graduated Summa Cum Laude, worked at Syracuse's WTVH-5 as a producer, and WSYR-9 as reporter and anchor before returning home to work in Buffalo at WIVB-TV in 2005.
In her time covering the major stories that have touched the lives of Western New Yorkers, like the search for Ralph "Bucky" Phillips, the Surprise October Storm, the arrest and conviction of the Bikepath Rapist, the Crash of Flight 3407, and the City Grill murders.
Melissa earned a New York State Emmy in 2009 for her morning reporting coverage during one of Western New York's wild windstorms. In 2013, Medaille College Dept. of Communications honored Melissa with the Female News Anchor of the Year Award.
It's telling the stories that truly matter to Buffalonians that drive Melissa every day. It's her passion, and she couldn't see herself doing anything but this. She also feels fortunate to dedicate her time to numerous charitable organizations.
More than anything, Melissa feels lucky to have the loving support after a long workday from her husband Jay, a sports reporter and editor at The Buffalo News. At least a few times a week you'll find them trying a new restaurant in town, as Melissa loves watching The Food Network, but really can't cook. They live together in Amherst with their cockapoo- their baby- Lucy.

Melissa Holmes's Blog Entries
In honor of the Section VI playoffs this weekend (Go Panthers!) I
thought I would use my blog this week to share a little about my history
as an alumna of the Sweet Home School District.
It is with great joy and excitement that I'm writing this- my first blog ever. It comes at one of the most exciting and emotional times of my life, when I can announce to all of you that...I'm PREGNANT!
