BUFFALO, NY - Today we will hear from and see someone who hasn't been around these parts much over the past two years.
Sabres' owner Tom Golisano will discuss the sale of the team to Pennsylvania billionaire Terry Pegula.
Recently, Buffalo sports fans have been off the bandwagon when it comes to our teams' owners.
Ralph Wilson has been the leader of a team that hasn't made the playoffs for 11 straight years. In addition, Wilson has given fans "agita" by refusing to talk about succession plans for the franchise.
Meanwhile, Golisano has been seen as disengaged and disinclined to spend money over the past few years.
Well that era of bad feelings could be coming to an end in the very near future with Pegula's ownership.
Pegula donated $88 million to the Penn State hockey program.
"I think Terry Pegula coming in is a Godsend," said John Hannon a U.B. professor who's heavily involved in amateur hockey in Buffalo. He recently spent some time at Penn State and spoke with people there about Pegula.
"He's been in the hockey culture which is a great thing, and as I understand it he wants to leave a legacy. I think he wants to leave one at Penn State and I think he wants to leave one here in Buffalo."
Larry Playfair is the head of the Sabres Alumni Association. He believes Pegula will be a much more involved owner than Golisano has been.
Larry Playfair: "This is the best of all possible worlds for him to pick up this team."
Scott Brown: "How important is it that he's got a strong hockey background and strong hockey interest?"
Larry Playfair: "Well I think that is the key, that is the key difference between Mr. Pegula and Mr. Golisano. Mr. Golisano was great for our community, but did not necessarily have a strong background in hockey and Mr. Pegula does and is a fan and things will matter to him a little more."
John Hannon: "Given his deep pockets, also his roots in the region, it's going to be a tremendous thing for the Sabres and for the community of Western New York."
