Stroke Risk Lower Due to Tomatoes

Eating tomatoes and tomato-based products may help reduce the risk of a stroke.

Researchers credit the anti-oxidant lycopene, which is found in tomatoes, for the protective effect.

Their study found men who had the most lycopene in their blood were 55-percent less likely to have a stroke than those who had the least.

The results were even stronger for strokes caused by blood clots.
