Countries with high consumption of black tea tend to have lower rates of type 2 diabetes.

that's according to an observation by swiss researchers -- who are quick to point out their study does not prove black tea can prevent diabetes, which is a major risk factor for heart disease.

but they say it does lay some groundwork for further research into the potential benefits of black tea flavonoids.

from the release: "the global prevalence of type 2 diabetes has increased six-fold over the past few decades, and the international diabetes federation calculates that the number of those with the disease will soar from 285 million in 2010 to 438 million in 2030."
