Link found between men's mental health and their biological children

A man's mental health issues are linked to similar problems in his offspring.

A study of more than 31-thousand norwegian children finds 3-percent of their fathers had high levels of psychological distress while the babies were still in utero.

There was a strong link between an expectant fathers' stress levels and emotional and behavioral problems when the kids reached age 3.

The study authors suggest identifying potential mental health problems during pregnancy can give doctors a chance to treat children as soon as possible.

The fathers were assessed at week 17 or 18 gestation.
