a Japanese study has confirmed what most mothers already know ... crying babies often calm down when they're picked up and carried.

using human infants and mouse pups, researchers observed the heart rates of babies slow down immediately after they are picked up and carried -- but not when they are held for longer periods of time.

they say these findings show that carrying is an essential component of bonding for mother and her baby ... and knowing how to soothe a fussy baby can reduce frustration for parents ... and lower the risk of child abuse.
