A new study finds that oxytocin, known as the 'love hormone', plays a large role in how people and animals interact socially.

Researchers found when the production of oxytocin was blocked in mice ... they stopped hanging out with their cagemates ... but it didn't change any of their other behaviors.

Drugs that act to boost the hormone are not yet available ... but these findings could eventually lead to treatment of diseases like autism ... or other neurological disorders.
