Student athletes who suffer a concussion may need a break before returning to the classroom.

Previous research has shown that after a concussion, children may have problems learning new material and remembering what they have already learned.

Therefore, the american academy of pediatrics is now recommending children with severe symptoms stay home from school until they are cleared by their doctor ... and those with prolonged problems may need additional accommodations.

Experts say every concussion is unique ... and decisions about when a student should return to school should be made on a case by case basis.
