DELAVAN, NY-- Pioneer Central Schools were in lockdown for a short time Friday while State Police search for a bank robbery suspect.
The robbery happened just after 2pm at the M&T Bank on North Main Street in Delavan.
Troopers say a white male walked in and presented a note to the teller and demanded money. They say he did not display a weapon and it is unknown if he has one.
The suspect left on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
He is described as a white male, unknown age, brown or black hair, wearing a black hat, either black or dark blue sweat pants and a fanny pack.
The lockdown was lifted at 4:15pm. Pioneer Central Schools Superintendent Jeffrey Bowen says students were in lockdown at the request of the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department. Bowen says most of the students were on their way home already, but some of the elementary classes and after school activities went back to the school during the lockdown. Parents were notified by phone.
