Lockport, NY - Lockport Police tell 2 On Your Side they arrested a young mother this week after her three-year old son was found wandering outside of the Niagara Hotel in the middle of the night.
Chief Larry Eggert says investigators still are not sure how this toddler was able to able to open the front door and simply walk away.
Police identify the child's mother as 22-year Samantha Boyd. They say she lives on Niagara Street with her son. According to the arrest report Boyd told investigators that she was sleeping on a couch when her son opened the door and walked out.
A bartender working inside the Niagara Hotel noticed the boy walking outside alone. He called the police, and a short time later Boyd called the cops to report that her son was missing. About an hour later Chief Eggert says she was placed under arrest.
"We arrested her for endangering the welfare of the child just by the fact that the child did get out and what's nice about that is that it will be put into the system and she will have a county welfare worker assigned to just keep an eye on him, make sure it was just an accidental thing as opposed to something that might be more, happen more often," said the Chief.
Boyd was released from custody and is expected to appear at the City of Lockport Court within the next few weeks.
