OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) - Passengers on a double-decker transit bus in the Canadian capital of Ottawa say they were screaming for the driver to stop, just before the bus collided with a passenger train at a crossing today.
Police say six people were killed. Thirty others were injured, 11 critically.
One man who was on the bus says passengers could see the train bearing down on them as the bus approached the crossing.
Witnesses say the bus appeared to go through a lowered crossing barrier, plowing directly into the side of the passing, four-car train. The locomotive and one passenger car derailed, but there are no reports of major injuries to anyone on the train.
The crash occurred just outside a suburban train station.
