Butt Billboards Remind People to Protect Their Assets

Call it the big booty billboard...and when I say big, I mean a giant 20' by 60' poster of a very public posterior.

Normally I cringe at the sight of "plumber's crack," but there's something about this derriere that I'm okay with.

Our sister station KARE in Minnesota did a story about an ad campaign by the state department of health.

One of the ads features a ridiculously large rear end and reminds people to get a colonoscopy.

It definitely grabs your attention to say the least.

(Watch the story by clicking the video player above.)

March is colorectal cancer awareness month.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States.  It's a relatively slow-growing cancer, but many times it's found in very advanced stages -- if people put off getting a colonoscopy.

This September will mark five years since I lost my mom to the disease.  She died exactly six weeks after she was diagnosed.  My mom was only 58.

Let's face it, no one really wants to talk about colons, digestive issues, or getting a colonoscopy.

But who wants to be told they have six weeks to live...and that they could have prevented it?

To steal a slogan from one of the billboards, "Cover your butt! Get a colonoscopy!"

A catchy campaign in the hopes of helping people catch this deadly disease in its early stages.

Let's kick cancer's butt, shall we?

P.S. The Buffalo Undy 5000 5k is April 27th in Delaware Park.  People are sporting their skivvies (over their running gear) to raise money and awareness for colon cancer.  Hope to see you there!
