Live Television My Undies

I'm in front of the camera, microphone in hand, ready for a live shot and surrounded by more than a thousand people...and did I mention I'm in my underwear?

Sounds like a bad dream right?

Nope, just a typical Saturday as the morning live reporter for Channel 2.

Okay, maybe it's not a typical work day prancing around in my delicates (and not getting fired for doing so) -- but each day is different...and we have the opportunity to make a difference in place we call home.

First the back story...

My Friday night consisted of a workout (I do have to fit in a wedding dress in less than 5 months!) and a trip to Target.

The fitting room attendant gave me a strange look when I asked to try on three things: a workout jacket and two pairs of men's neon, geometric print boxer briefs.

"Uhm, so the jacket is one.  What are the other two?"

"Oh (holding up the undies)...I'll try them on over my pants, no worries."

I was quickly denied in front of a group of people who were probably wondering why that chick from TV is loitering in the men's underwear section.

Ended up grabbing the right size and going on my way.

For those of you who don't watch Saturday Daybreak, well shame on you...I mean it's split into two hours, 6-7 a.m. and 9-10 a.m.

For the 9 a.m. show I was live at Delaware Park in my neon undies for the Undy 5000, a great event to raise money and awareness for colon cancer.

I wish I could have run or walked, but with live shots at 9:08 and 9:34...and short stumpy legs and a short stride, there was no way I'd make it around the park that quickly for a 5k.

I was just happy to help stir up some publicity for a great event.

Anyone who knows me, know I don't take myself too seriously.  And I'll do just about anything if it means helping out a worthy cause (aka my multiple polar plunges in pirate costumes and fake mustaches).

Disclaimer: I wore them OVER my yoga pants! This is a family show people!!

A big shout out to everyone who took part in the Undy 5000 this weekend! They raised $80,000 for the Colon Cancer Alliance, which offers screenings and educational programs for underserved and uninsured folks in WNY.

An even bigger shout out to Mary Ellen of Derby who is battling colon cancer like a champ! She had surgery last month, and went through her second round of chemo Friday -- then made it to the race Saturday morning!

Her team was the Semi-Colons (a post surgery joke!).  She has such a great outlook on life and such a sense of humor.

She said her goal from the day she was diagnosed was to stay positive because she couldn't beat it if she didn't stay positive.

Mary Ellen is far more brave than any live reporter doing a report in her undies.
