BUFFALO, NY - At Rascals on Niagara Street on Buffalo's Westside, the most important words outside the restaurant are "We're Back, Now Open."

The popular take out and dine in restaurant had been closed for almost five years.

2 On Your Side's Jeff Preval took a look inside to find out what's new.

The traditional foods like burgers and hot dogs are back. Beer-battered fish fry is also back. So are chicken wings and barbecue brisket.

"There's not a whole lot of brisket out there; ours is better, that's what's different," said Mark DiMartile, the owner of Rascals on Niagara.

He's resurrected the restaurant, which has changed ownership and suffered some setbacks when it was burglarized two years ago.

REPORTER: How does it feel to be open?

DIMARTILE: After a year and three months working on this building it feels great.

REPORTER: What's the community reaction been in the two weeks you've been open?

DIMARTILE: Ah, it's phenomenal, it's amazing how many people walk in and can't believe we're open again and the neighborhood's been lit up. So it's been really good business is good, we're getting the word out more and more everyday, it seems like more people are coming in so, it's been really nice.

REPORTER: You guys have been closed for about four or five years or so, what's the big difference with Rascals now, compared to then?

DIMARTILE: There's not a whole lot, maybe the menu's more condensed because we're trying to introduce a simpler menu, as we pick up more customers, we get busy again, we're just trying to learn it all over again.

Clam chowder, corn on the cob and various ice cream flavors are also here. Rascals is looking to expand their menu by boosting the clam stand to have lobster, shrimp cocktail and more barbeque are on the way.

In the past, Rascals has been a seasonal restaurant, it now plans to stay open all year round, but it's going to feel out, in the fall time, on whether it wants to stay open the entire year.

Rascals is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Learn more about Rascals at RascalsOnNiagara.com.
