Buffalo, N.Y. - When people tell Dan Gagliardo there's no business in oil and vinegar, he simply tells them, 'put your money where your mouth is'.
"They say, 'what are they going to do with olive oil and vinegar? What could you do with that?'", said Gagliardo. "And once they come in here they understand."
Gagliardo is the owner of D'Avolio's, one of the latest businesses to open shop on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo. Named after his grandmother, D'Avolio's offers a delicacy you can't find at your local grocery store.
"We have 23 flavors of olive oil. We have 5 straight olive oils that are award winners and we have 17 flavors of infused olive oils as well."
D'Avolio's also offers 23 flavors of balsamic vinegar. From aged vinegar to fruitier flavors like pomegranate and blueberry. Vinegars can be combined with oils to make salad dressings. Gagliardo's staff will help you find the perfect match.
"Our people will help you. They'll go through it step by step. They'll ask you what your pallet is and they'll ask you to try it."
Samples are free and recommended. Olive oils are served with small pieces of bread. Vinegars can be sampled like shots.
D'Avolio's also offers a wide variety of olive oil-based products, including shampoo and conditioner. In addition, they sell olives, jams and pastas. You can also create gift baskets and boxes either in-store or online.
D'Avolio's is located on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo. There is also a store located on Center Street in Lewiston, and a third location is scheduled to open soon on Main Street in Williamsville.
