Unique Places: WNY Book Arts Center

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- For this weekend's Unique Place, 2 On Your Side visits Buffalo's museum dedicated to the printing press and the overall art and history of the book. We're visiting the Western New York Book Arts Center.

The Center is located at 468 Washington Street in Downtown Buffalo (Washington and Mohawk), and it's open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon - 6 p.m.

WNYBAC is a non-profit and mostly operates on funds it receives from selling its products and services.

The museum portion on the first floor houses many unique pieces of equipment, including a paper cutter that dates back to 1903. There are also special exhibits dedicated to authors and book history.

In addition to serving as a museum, the Center also houses 13 working printing presses in the basement, and they're used to make prints as well as gig posters and other unique works of art.

The Book Arts Center is the perfect place for school field trips; regular folks are also able to attend workshops to learn how to use the equipment firsthand.

For much more information, including details on the many workshops and special events at the Center, visit its Web site at

2 On Your Side's Michael Wooten toured the Center, and you can view his entire report from Daybreak by watching the video player.
