AMHERST, NY - Democratic Erie County Executive Candidate Mark Poloncarz is getting a last minute push from the party, as Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Sen. Charles Schumer are in Western New York Friday to rally for votes.

At the rally, Cuomo said, "Erie County is upside down and backwards... taxes up population and jobs down.  We need to change and change is called Mark Poloncarz."

The event at the United Auto Workers hall in Amherst had standing room only, with hundreds there to see some big time political players.

Joining Cuomo and Schumer on stage was Rep. Brian Higgins and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.

Schumer, Cuomo and Poloncarz all took shots at incumbent Republican County Executive Chris Collins.  Cuomo saying, "I don't understand why people who say they don't believe in government seek to run it."  Poloncarz later took the stage saying "I can't afford to fund my own race but I don't need to because I got the people on my side."

Last month, a 2 On Your Side/Buffalo News poll conducted by Siena College showed Poloncarz to be in a dead heat against Collins.

2 On Your Side and the Buffalo News have commissioned a new poll in the race by Siena College.  We'll have the latest results Saturday night at 11 pm.

Since that poll was released, the race has intensified amid a ballot tampering scandal, and questions over multiple - almost harassing - campaign calls that Poloncarz's camp says they didn't make.  The back and forth even getting national attention in the last weeks leading up to election day.

Cuomo formally endorsed Poloncarz late last month.
