Lockport, N.Y. - "Western New York's been great for Yahoo!," said Rich Kropfl, the Vice President of Data Operations for Yahoo!.

And Yahoo! is turning out to be pretty darn good for Western New York.

The Internet giant is now investing $170 million to more than double the 100 jobs it already has in Lockport.

Most of the new 115 jobs will be customer care call center positions with an average salary of $50,000 a year.

What makes Western New York so attractive?

It's a combination of low cost hydropower, our climate which reduces the cost of cooling the data center's servers and a great workforce.

Rich Kropfl, Yahoo Vice President: "We continue to look at other options across the country but nothing compares to what we get here to be honest with you. Again the clean hydropower is a huge attractive force for us here, just the climate, the workforce, all of those things no one can compete with at that level frankly."

Michael Draper, Yahoo Vice President: "The people that we have hired are amazing. I've hired people across the U.S. for Yahoo!, the work ethic here, the people here it's truly amazing. It's been just fabulous to see."

Yahoo! first set up shop in Lockport three years ago. The new facility is expected to open in about a year.

Lt. Governor Robert Duffy: "They could have expanded anywhere, they have a huge facility in the state of Washington, they have a big facility in Nebraska, they could have had this expansion anywhere and they chose Lockport and it means the world to us."
