DEPEW, NY -  U.S. Congressman-Elect Chris Collins is ready for his new challenge. The Republican defeated Democrat Kathy Hochul by a slim margin in the NY-27 Congressional district race.  He met with reporters at his campaign headquarters on Transit Road in Depew.

Collins, sounding far less divisive, reacted to a question about working across party lines in Congress. "I'm going to do what is best for the country, I will compromise where it need be, but I won't compromise on the values or knowing what I know on how to create jobs in the small business world. Again, I think I can be a voice of reason because of my experience."

Collins is a former Erie County Executive. He served one term after he was defeated by Democrat Mark Poloncarz.

Collins ran unsuccessfully for Congress in the late 1990's. He was trying to unseat veteran John LaFalce.

When it comes to Obamacare, during the campaign, Collins often spoke about fighting to have it repealed. One day after he was elected, he told reporters, "Obamacare is what I said, it's a wet blanket on job creation, I believe the President will hopefully look at the disapproval ratings of Obamacare and that we can maybe clean that up in a way that we're not raiding medicare."

"If we don't work together, the country doesn't move forward. I think at this moment in time, we all know that so let's put some of these differences aside and get the job done."
