BUFFALO, NY - 2 On Your Side's Scott Brown has learned that former Buffalo Bills star Steve Tasker nearly entered the Republican primary for the new 27th congressional district.

Scott Brown spoke with Tasker Monday afternoon. Tasker said that "since the middle of last week I considered getting into the race in a serious way. Over the weekend I talked it over with my family and we decided it was not the right time for us."

Also deciding against a run was Erie County legislator John Mills. Mills said he wouldn't be able to raise what he estimated to be at least one and a half million dollars to run in the primary and general elections.

That leaves a heads up race between former Erie County Executive Chris Collins and Iraq war veteran David Bellavia of Batavia.

The new 27th is a sprawling district that runs from Southern Erie County to south of Rochester.

Because of that, candidates will have to buy commercials on both Buffalo and Rochester television stations.

Collins, a millionaire, has plenty of his own money to spend in the race.

Bellavia has the support of millionaire businessman Jack Davis, who ran for the seat four times and says Bellavia supports Davis' signature issue - fair trade with countries like China.

There's been talk of a Super Pac being formed to support Bellavia.

Super Pacs can spend unlimited amounts of money on a candidate.

Scott Brown: "Would you be part of someone contributing to a Super Pac for Bellavia?"

Jack Davis: "Yes I could be a part of that, yes."

Scott Brown: "Ballpark figure of what you may be willing to put into the race?"

Jack Davis: "I haven't thought about it that much."

Scott Brown: "Hundreds of thousands?"

Jack Davis: "He'll need some help, but I'm not ready to make that decision at this point."

Whoever wins the Republican primary will have an advantage going into the general election race against Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul- there are 7 percent more Republicans than Democrats in the district.

The Republican primary will be held on June 26th.
