Buffalo, NY - Former fugitive debt collector Tobias Boyland, better known as "Bags O' Money" was sentenced Friday morning.

Boyland was convicted back in March of 2010 for criminal possession of a weapon and was sentenced to 15-years in prison, but instead of turning himself in he disappeared. He was found over a year later at a hotel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and returned to Erie County.

Boyland once owned several debt collection agencies was investigated for using predatory practices to collect money from debtors. Authorities also raided his office and home and found some weapons.

Friday, he was sentenced up to 3-years in prison for jumping bail. His Attorney Anthony Lana told 2 On Your Side, Boyland is still appealing his weapons charges.

"The conviction which is the basis for this charge is being appealed to the Court of Appeal which is the highest court in New York State, and we're hopeful that's gonna result in a favorable decision," said Lana.

Boyland claims he didn't surrender to authorities last year because of a misunderstanding, and never intended to run from the  authorities.

As far as the appeals process goes on his client's weapon's conviction, Lana said its too early to tell what will be decided.
