Grisanti said Tuesday night, this race against Democrat Mike Amodeo and Conservative Chuck Swanick wasn't so much about republicans versus democrats, it was upstate versus downstate. He said it would "be disastrous to Western New York" if republicans lost control of the State Senate.
Grisanti said he won because he brought home what Western New York wanted.
Senate Republicans poured more than a half million dollars into Grisanti's re-election campaign because right now republicans hold only a slim majority in the State Senate. Through redistricting the republicans have added a 63rd seat, and currently republicans have 33 seats and democrats 29.
Grisanti's victory is especially meaningful in his highly democratic district. It includes a portion of Buffalo, as well as Grand Island, the Tonawandas, Hamburg, Orchard Park, Evans, Brant and Cattaraugus, and democrats outweigh republicans 2:1.
There are 86,000 democrats in the district compared to 52,000 republicans.
