AMHERST, N.Y. - We would like to wish a happy Hanukkah to all who are celebrating the first night of the Jewish holiday Saturday evening.
That includes this group in Amherst, who were on hand to light the first candle on the menorah. This one on Maple Road is much larger than most of the ones that were being lit inside many Western New Yorker's homes.
The holiday commemorates the re-dedication of the holy temple in Jerusalem. According to tradition, a menorah burned for eight days with only one day's worth of oil.
