BUFFALO, NY - Have you heard of the gift that keeps on giving and giving? Kelly Johnston and her husband Scott won a trip to The Ellen DeGeneres show. It was a special show on December 7, 2012, as the host gave away gifts as part of the 12 Days of Giveaways. What the Johnston's did with some of their gifts shows they having the spirit of giving.

Each audience member left with three $500 gift cards for JC Penny. Together, the Johnston's left with $3,000 in gift cards and other prizes, but they are sharing the joy. "I know how hard it can be not getting a gift or not having supplies or toys or anywhere to go after-school." said Kelly Johnston.

The Johnston's used some of their gift cards to purchase needed items for young people who go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Buffalo. They bought socks, underwear, coats and games. These are items they were told that could be used by the kids at the various clubs.

"I grew up in buffalo and my parents struggled through my whole childhood and you have to make due with what you have. My parents made sure we got the best Christmas, whether it was new or used things, we always had a wonderful family Christmas."

It's a great feeling to pay it forward. "I feel like I was there at the show for a reason so I could give back, not just to my family, but to other families," said Kelly.

The Johnston's have been married two years and were high school sweethearts. They hope to purchase a home in the future and furnish it using the remainder of the money left on the gift cards.

They also received kitchen items and scooters as part of the audience at The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The Johnston's hope other people are inspired to help out young people with something simple that can bring a smile.
