BUFFALO, N.Y. - Many people in Erie County noticed on Wednesday that Lake Erie's water levels were lower than they had ever seen before.
Meteorologists from the National Weather Service said the water dropped two feet in 12 hours on Wednesday because of a seiche.
A seiche is caused when the wind changes direction. According to the National Weather Service, the lake dropped a total of 30 inches.
However, by Thursday afternoon the water levels were back to normal.
