BUFFALO, NY - Michael Haug, 29, a former Erie County Sheriff's Deputy, will spend two-to-six years in prison for DWI and vehicular assault.
Haug pleaded guilty to the charges in connection with an August accident on Sheridan Drive and Bailey Avenue in Amherst.
Daniel Colosimo, 37, of the Town of Tonawanda was critically injured. He was in a coma for ten days. He has undergone several surgeries, but was able to appear in court for the sentencing of the former law enforcer who he says changed his life forever.
Haug apologized in court and looked at Colosimo and said "I wish you the best and I will continue to pray for you and hope you make a full recovery."
Erie County Court Judge Thomas Franczyk was considering a one-and-one-third to four-year sentence, but decided to make it higher. He said his decision was based upon learning that Haug was pulled over for drinking and driving in 2009, but was let go as a professional courtesy.
