NIAGARA FALLS, NY-- The control tower at the Niagara Falls international airport has been spared from the list of towers that would have to close because of sequester cuts.
The FAA put out the list of 149 towers across the country that will close starting next month.
Niagara Falls had been slated for closure, but was saved because of national security concerns.
"The NFTA is pleased and thankful that the FAA appreciated the significance of maintaining the control tower in Niagara Falls as it relates to maintaining a positive and safe environment for commercial, private and military aviation related operations at the airport", says Kimberley A. Minkel, Executive Director of the NFTA.
Airport officials nationwide claim that the closures could have a serious safety impact.
