BUFFALO, NY-- This weekend, across the state, and here in Western New York, the push is on for more people to join the ranks of volunteer firefighters.
The third annual statewide recruitment effort will be held this Saturday and Sunday at more than 500 departments across the state.
Last year, in Erie County, the recruitment weekend helped bring in over 6 new volunteers.
Each open house will feature tours, demonstrations, activities, and will show volunteers how they can help out.
"There's something for everyone. So, this sophisticated recruit effort we do here isn't necessarily looking for the person that's the adrenaline junkie willing to run into a burning building. We're looking for people who want to give back to their community, this is the opportunity for you to do that," says Daniel Neaverth, Department of Emergency Services.
