BUFFALO, N.Y. --  A local singer is asking for the public's assistance in bringing more music to Buffalo this summer.

"Pianos in Public Buffalo" is a campaign to place colorfully decorated refurbished pianos in outdoor spaces for public use.

Mark Weber, an area soloist who started the campaign, is collecting old or unused upright pianos. He's also hoping to raise $4,000 in four weeks to kick off the project this summer.

Weber said he started the campaign because he wanted to find a way to repurpose - not destroy - old pianos. He was inspired by New York City, where painted pianos are placed throughout the city for free use by the public during the summer months.

Weber already has plans to bring pianos to Canalside and Larkin Square in the coming weeks, and hopes to bring pianos to more places in the city.

"I just love music and I love Buffalo and I want people to enjoy the joy of music wherever they go," Weber said.

Donations can be made to "Pianos in Public Buffalo" on Kickstarter. The money will be used to move, decorate and store the pianos.
