BUFFALO, NY - One person is in custody following a standoff situation on the city's East Side.
Police were called to 101 Dorris Avenue around 9 a.m. Thursday for a report of a violent domestic dispute. Officers then got information that there was a man inside the residence with a gun who was threatening to kill someone.
S.W.A.T. officers were then called to the scene around 9:30 a.m.
Residents say they heard a gunshot as they were running out of the house.
Neighboring homes were evacuated as a precaution.
About 30 minutes later, the suspect surrendered to police without incident. The suspect's girlfriend was unharmed.
An officer then observed movement in the lower level of the house, and they were concerned they may have been another suspect in the home.
Police called for a peaceful resolution over a loud speaker.
Buffalo Police waited for a search warrant, then about a dozen officers entered the home where they found ammunition and a gun cleaning kit. The suspect's weapon, believed to be a .45 caliber handgun, wasn't found.
Officers also brought out a small dog they believe moved the curtains, which prompted the search.
The name of the man who was taken into custody hasn't been released. He's charged with menacing, harrasment and assault.
