Amherst Town Supervisor Dr. Satish Mohan was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident Monday evening.
The accident happened around 6pm near the intersection of Transit Road and Main Street.
Investigators say police responded to a report of a hit and run property damage accident. Upon further investigation, it was discovered Dr. Mohan was the driver.
Dr. Mohan was issued two traffic tickets; one for moving from a traffic lane unsafely, and for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
2 On Your Side's Scott Levin contacted Dr. Mohan Monday night and this is what he said:
"I was not moving. I was waiting to turn, didn't feel any contact. Nobody waved or honked. If I made a mistake, I will pay what I need to pay."
According to the police report, Mohan was driving a 1999 Buick, heading north on Transit Road. The other car involved was a 1998 Honda, driven by a 21 year old woman from Ballston Lake, NY.
Police say the woman was in the left turn lane, heading toward Main Street, when Mohan turned into her lane, striking the right rear quarter panel of the vehicle. The report claims Mohan made no attempt to stop and the driver of the car did not call police.
A short time later, Police found Mohan's car in the parking lot at the Amherst Town Hall on Main Street. When asked by an officer if he was in an accident, Mohan said "not that I can recall." According to the police report, Mohan later said "I did think something happened." He added, "Vehicles bump all the time. It was no big deal. I was late for a meeting."
