FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -- Buffalo Bills kickoff returner Leodis McKelvin went for the extra yard and wound up giving the New England Patriots a chance to get back into the game.

With the Bills nursing an 11-point lead and under 2 minutes to play, McKelvin brought the kickoff out of the end zone and past the 30 yard-line.

But Pierre Woods stripped it, and kicker Stephen Gostkowski recovered to set up the Patriots' comeback for a 25-24 victory.

2 On Your Side's Adam Benigni blogged play by play at the game.

7:15 = Nice defensive stand on the opening series.  Lawrence Maroney returned the opening kickoff 52-yards to the Buffalo 49.  Bills come up with a nice defensive stand stopping the Pats on 4th and inches and taking over at the 40.  Nice confidence boost early.

7:20 - Bills first drive stalls.  Edwards hits a nice ball to Rosh Reed on 3rd and 7 at the 43 but the offense was flagged for illegal formation.   Pass to Fred Jackson was incomplete in 3rd and 12... a juggled pass he should have caught.  Moorman punts and Patriots start at their 17.

7:27- Patriots drive to the Buffalo 24 but drive stalls.   Stephen Gostkowski misses a 42-yard field goal wide right.   Brady looks shaky throwing with poor accuracy on several short routes.  Another stop for the Bills defense in a sloppy opener so far.

7:35 - Fred Jackson with a gain of 16 for Buffalo on 2nd and 6... fumbles the ball but officials initially rule he was down.   Close call on replay.   Edwards then hits Jackson for a gain of 21 on a pass/run combo.   Bills knocking on the door at the Patriots 12.   The Bills strike first... Edwards hits rookie tight end Shawn Nelson for an 11-yard touchdown.   Bills drive 68-yards in 6-plays and take a 7-0 lead.

SCORING UPDATE:  BILLS LEAD 7-0  (2:58 left in 1st quarter)

7:45 - Schobel sacks Brady on third down.  Bills get best pressure of the game and clearly have momentum leading 7-0 after first quarter.

2ND QUARTER

7:53 - Bills third and five... Edwards with a nicely thrown ball to Terrell Owens for what would have been a first down.   Owens drops it.  It was the first time the Bills had thrown to Owens in the game.

8:08 = SCORING UPDATE - PATRIOTS TOUCHDOWN TIES GAME 7-7.   Fred Taylor caps a 14-play 72-yard scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown run.  Brady still looked shaky but converted three times on third down on a drive that took 7:12.  Leodis McKelvin missed a key tackle on Kevin Faulk on a 3rd and 9 that would have killed the drive.

8:18 = Bills drive stalls on 3rd and 10 at the 37.   Edwards throws for Lee Evans over the middle on a ball he could have caught.  Good hit from Patriot corner Leigh Bodden contributed to the incompletion.

8:19 = SCORING UPDATE - BILLS TOUCHDOWN - BILLS LEAD 14-7 - Brady short pass intercepted by Aaron Schobel and returned 26-yards for a touchdown.   Brady turned back across the field to throw off a play fake to Sammy Morris.   Bills got good penetration into the backfield and Schobel picked it off.

8:30 - Injury update.  Pats linebacker Jerod Mayo is questionable to return with a knee injury.  Bills injury on 2nd and goal at the 3 with :26 left in the half.  Chris Kelsay is helped off the field walking to lockeroom.

8:33 = SCORING UPDATE - PATRIOTS FG - BILLS LEAD 14-10 AT THE HALF.

Stephen Gostkowski kicks a 20-yard field goal to cap a 68-yard drive.  Bills stop Kevin Faulk on 3rd and goal at the 3.   The key play for New England was a 31 yard gain on a short route to Randy Moss.   Moss changed direction after making the catch and gained additional yardage down to the Buffalo 9.

HALFTIME SCORE:  BILLS LEAD 14-10.

Interesting stat: Bills outgained 217-111 but force a key turnover and lead 14-10 at the half.   Owens threw one ball to receiver Terrell Owens that was dropped.

Trent Edwards 7-of-11 for 65-yards and a touchdown

Tom Brady 13-of-22 for 159-yards and an interception

THIRD QUARTER

8:53 - Bills drive stalls on an Edwards incompletion on 3rd and 3.  Demetrius Bell hurt them with a false start penalty.  Edwards hit Evans for a gain of 12 on second down but threw incomplete on third.   Great punt by Brian Moorman has the Patriots starting at their own three yard line.

8:57 = INJURY UPDATE - Bills LB Paul Posluszny out with an arm injury.  He WILL NOT return.   Posluszny broke his arm at New England two years ago and missed the remainder of the season.

9:04 - Bills defense comes up with a big stop.   Brady was driving New England from its own 3-yard line and faced 4th and 2 at the  Buffalo 36.   Belichick elects to go for it and Brady throws incomplete.   Bills take over at their own 36-yard line.

9:10 - SCORING UPDATE - RIAN LINDELL 40-YARD FIELD GOAL - BILLS LEAD 17-10.    Bills drive 42-yards in seven plays for the field goal.   Key play was a 27-yard pass from Edwards to Terrell Owens.   That was Owens first reception of the night to help set up the field goal.  BILLS LEAD 17-10.

FOURTH QUARTER

-Sorry... Internet connection issues here in Foxboro... we're back with the Bills still leading 17-13.  Tom Brady drives New England to a field goal.  Aaron Schobel continues to have a big night - he deflected the Brady pass on third down for force New England to kick the field goal.

INJURY UPDATE - Bills DE Chris Kelsay out with a knee injury and WILL NOT RETURN.

9:35 - Owens flagged for interference pushing off on a DB before catching a ball for an apparent first down.   On the next play Edwards completes fto Fred Jackson for 18-yards and a first down.

9:43 - SCORING UPDATE - BILLS TOUCHDOWN - TRENT EDWARDS 10-YARDS TO FRED JACKSON... BILLS LEAD 24-13.  Trent Edwards leads the Bills on a 14-play 62-yard drive in 6:11.   Very deliberate drive for Buffalo with command.  Edwards under pressure dumps to Jackson who takes it into the end zone.  Very impressive work with the game on the line.

Bills lose 24-25.
