Congressman Brian Higgins announced that the funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will allow for the hiring of 85 new employees to Buffalo's division of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

The new hires will be responsible for making benefits to Veterans readily and quickly available.

"These Recovery Act funds accomplish two great things for Western New York: putting members of our community back to work and providing greater resources and support teams for our local heroes", said Congressman Higgins.  "I applaud the VA for their work improving the well-being of those who have sacrificed to keep our country safe."

$150 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will be used for these new hires.  In addition to the production of new jobs, the Recovery Act funds have supported over $1 billion of improvements at VA medical centers and national cemeteries.
