BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown issued a statement Monday afternoon regarding the arrest of his son over the weekend for petit larceny:
"My son Byron was arrested this past Saturday, charged with petit larceny and issued an appearance ticket.
My wife and I are greatly disappointed by this extremely poor judgement by our son.
Although this is a private family matter, I want to make it clear that my son Byron will cooperate fully with the authorities throughout the ensuing legal process."
According to the police report, the arrest took place at the A.J. Wright store on Delaware Avenue and involved allegedly taking over $50 worth of merchandise. The items taken, according to the police report, were Hanes t-shirt packages and a stereo boom box for an I-Pod.
The Mayor's son was accused of shoplifting after accepting the items from a clerk who failed to ring up the items. The clerk was also charged.
Byron Brown III, 19, was released on an appearance ticket returnable in Buffalo City Court on August 9th.
