NYS Senator Antoine Thompson (D)

BUFFALO, NY--  Following weeks of counting ballots and court action, Democrat Antoine Thompson has conceded the 60th District State Senate seat to Republican Mark Grisanti. Thompson released the following statement Tuesday morning from Albany:

"I thank the residents of the 60th Senatorial District for allowing me to serve them for four years - a duty that I took very seriously and an experience for which I am extremely grateful. I thank the many community partners who I've had the pleasure of working with side-by-side for a better 60th District. Together, we accomplished monumental successes in the areas of economic development, education and the environment."

This concession from Thompson contridicts what he said earlier on Monday. Senator Antoine Thompson, D-Buffalo, said that he's not planning to concede in his race for Senate, one of three outstanding races that will decide control of the state Senate next year.

"It's too premature," Thompson said Monday at the state Capitol when asked if he's planning to concede. "There's still a lot of ballots out there and some people want us to do a hand count and we'll see."

Thompson trailed his opponent Republican Mark Grisanti by 527 votes.
