KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) - Police say a plane with 19 people on board has crashed in Nepal's capital while heading for the Everest region.
The twin-engine prop plane belonging to the domestic Sita Air crashed near the Manohara River on the southwest edge of Katmandu on Friday morning. It had taken off just minutes earlier and was turning east.
Police said firefighters were trying to control the fire on the wreckage.
The plane's three crew members are Nepalese. The identities of the passengers are not immediately known.
The plane was heading for Lukla, the gateway to Mount Everest. It is a popular destination for foreign trekkers.
