HONOLULU (AP) - A California high school teacher who helped a shark attack victim to shore in Hawaii says the woman kept repeating that she was going to die as she went in and out of consciousness.
Fifty-seven-year-old Rick Moore of Orange County told Hawaii News Now (http://bit.ly/13pzkO1 ) that he heard the woman shrieking and swam to her. He says he repeatedly reassured her that she'd survive and make it to shore.
The German visitor, who is about 20 years old, lost her arm in the attack roughly 50 yards off the Maui coast Wednesday evening. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Another of her rescuers, Nick Grisaffi of Laguna Beach, Calif., told Hawaii News Now he's used to the water, but the ordeal has changed his thinking.
