Shootings Leave 2 Suspects Dead, 3 police wounded

PHOENIX (AP) - Two separate shootings in the Phoenix area have left two suspects dead and three police officers wounded.

KNXV reports ( ) that the shootings occurred Saturday afternoon.

Avondale police Sgt. Brandon Busse says a suspect was riding a bicycle and shooting at officers

He says an officer was shot in the face, and hospitalized in stable condition. One officer fatally shot the suspect in the chest.

The station reports that in north Phoenix, police spokesman Sgt. Steve Martos says officers responded when a man with a weapon trying to get into an apartment.

Martos says that SWAT officers negotiated with the 30-year-old man for three hours before shooting erupted.

He says that the suspect was killed and two officers were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening wounds.

The names of the slain suspects weren't immediately released.
