Nik Wallenda's cable over Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, NY - The cable for Nik Wallenda's high-wire walk is now across Niagara Falls.

Rigging crews tell 2 On Your Side that the cable must still be secured and then they will adjust the tension to Wallenda's liking.

The crews say they will continue work this morning until the Maid of the Mist begins running. They will then resume their work Wednesday evening and hope to finish the rigging and adjustments by Thursday.

Rigging of Nik Wallenda's cable over Niagara Falls began on Tuesday, and crews worked through the night to complete the job.

The project started with a lighter cable being flown across the Niagara gorge by a helicopter.

Once the first wire, or "messenger wire" was secured on both sides, one end of the cable Wallenda will actually walk upon (weighing seven tons) was attached to the messenger wire and then winched back across the gorge with giant machines.

The whole apparatus is being anchored to bolts sunk deep into the bedrock a few hundred yards back from the brink of the falls near Terrapin Point on the American side, and on the Canadian side near Table Rock.
