A recent complaint to our 2 ON Your Side Tipline questioned the efforts of a city grass cutting crew on vacant lots in the area of Moselle Street in Buffalo. We also asked on our WGZ Facebook page if people were concerned about high grass on city owned lots. About 40 people responded.
A viewer named Edna took issue with what she says was the refusal of the city crew on Moselle to actually trim some of the high growth on the side of the lot adjacent to vacant buildings. She says the crew chief told her it was not on his list of jobs even though they had weed - whackers in hand.
Another resident on Ashley Street pointed out the grass two to three feet high on a lot next to her home where her niece plays on their mowed lawn. Ashley says the grass in the lot was only cut once last year and reached up to her chin before it was cut.
We contacted City Hall spokesman Mike DeGeorge who points out the city has an estimated 10,000 vacant lots to mow. He says they have nearly finished the end of their month - long cycle of making the first cut and should be in the Broadway - Fillmore area including Ashley street sometime next week.
DeGeorge also says anyone with questions about the conduct of a city crew should contact the city's 311 City Resolution Hotline.
